scenic tram rides

The Wallowa Lake Tramway is the steepest, and one of the most thrilling, aerial rides in America. Four-person cable cars go from a base elevation of 4,450 feet to the top of Mt. Howard at 8,150 feet above sea level in fifteen minutes--a distance of nearly four miles. The patio deck adjacent to the top of the tram is a great place to enjoy beer or wine with a light meal or snacks from the Summit Grill ("the Northwest's highest restaurant") or your own picnic with a breathtaking backdrop. The top of the tram serves as a trailhead for a wealth of trails and loops to spectacular Overlook Trail (three-quarters of a mile) for a glorious perspective on the mountains, Wallowa Lake, Joseph, and the lush valley below. Bring your mountain bike for an easy but memorable five- to fifteen-mile bike ride down from the summit.
